Welcome to the
New York State Junior Golf Tour
Spring, Summer, Fall: 20 Tournaments Per Year
20 Tournaments. The NYS Junior Golf Tour offers 20 tournaments per year. Nobody plays in all 20 events due to scheduling and other activities throughout the year. You simply pick and choose the events you would like to play in and sign up. We offer you the ability to sign up for three events in advance, any more than that leads to too many cancellations.
Great Golf Courses. We offer the kids a chance to play some tremendous golf courses throughout the area. Many of the courses greens fees are ten times what the kids will pay to play on this tour. It is always our goal to find the best courses for the kids. If you know a course that would be interested in hosting the tour, we would love to hear about it. For a list of this year’s courses click on the “2010 Schedule” icon on this website.
Registration/Greens Fees. Great golf at great green fees is part of the NY State Jr. Tour. There is an annual registration fee of $50 per player to join the tour. The player will receive over $75 in merchandise including a waterproof wind shirt and hat with the tour logo to start and then merchandise from Nike, Titliest, TaylorMade, Adidas, Wilson and other tour sponsors. After that, each player pays as they play. Greens fees are $10 for kids 10-12 (9 holes) and $15 for kids 13 and up (18 holes). Greens fees include a cookout and prizes at all tournaments. We have long drive and closest to the pin prizes as well as trophies and other prizes at all events. Some golf courses do not allow us to conduct the cookout, but typically we have Sahlen’s Hot Dogs, Troyer Farms snacks and beverages at each tournament.
Parent-Junior Events. We offer a series (4-5) parent-junior tournaments where the kids play with a parent or any adult. We play a parent-junior Ryder Cup in the Spring and Fall at Batavia Country Club as well as parent-junior events at Greystone, Ravenwood, and Glen Oak. These tournaments are not highly competitive, but very fun and designed to build camaraderie amongst the players and parents/adults. They include golf, carts and lunch for everyone as well as gifts and prizes/trophies for the juniors. Greens fees at these events is $60 per team
To register/sign up for tournaments. To register for the NY State Junior Tour click on the registration icon on this website. Print out and fill out the information page and mail it, along with a check for $50 to: NY State Junior Golf Tour, P.O. Box 454, East Amherst, NY 14051. To register for tournaments you can email Rick Zurak, Director at firstname.lastname@example.org or call Rick at 716-390-0549. Tee times will be posted on the tee times page on this website. Again, you can sign up for up to three tournaments at a time.
Cancellation. If you have a problem and cannot make it to a tournament, you must cancel within 72 hours or you will owe the greens fees for that tournament. You may be taking the spot of a player that could not get into the tournament due to the limit of the field and costing that player a chance to play. This does not happen very often, but if you sign up and cannot make it, you must let Rick Zurak know, even if it is the day of the event. If you sign up for a tournament and do not show up or call to cancel more than once during the season, you may be declared ineligible to play the rest of the season. We understand people get sick or have emergencies/travel problems, but we also want to be fair to all the players.
Equipment. Each player must have their own bag and own clubs. If you are interested in playing and do not have equipment, we do have clubs and bags donated to the tour at times and may be able to help you out. We also offer very inexpensive equipment at Rick Zurak’s Golf Warehouse, Transit and Genesee in Lancaster, right around the corner from the Buffalo airport.
Lessons. We also offer FREE unlimited lessons while on tour or you can come to Rick Zurak’s Golf Warehouse Monday-Friday between 5-8pm. Call first to make sure Rick will be on hand for the lessons. We offer FREE LESSONS to all golfers, young and old, every day, at the golf warehouse.
Car Pooling. We offer a car pooling service to help you get to the tournaments. If you need a ride, just let Rick know as far in advance as possible. We will find someone in your neighborhood that is playing and get you connected. We will NOT put any juniors in cars that are being driven by juniors. Rick Zurak lives in Ransom Oaks/Glen Oak Golf Course/East Amherst and provides rides to 3-4 kids per tournament. Don’t be afraid to ask for a ride. We’ll do our best to get you there. When traveling to Canada, don’t forget you will need a passport OR original birth certificate, photo ID and a note from your parents to get back into the United States.
Scholarship Fund. In the past 19 years, The NY State Jr. Tour has distributed over $32,000 in college scholarships through the Chris Protos Memorial Scholarship Fund. Chris Protos, the former owner of Chestnut Hill and Deerfield, was the first supporter of this tour and will always be #1 in our hearts. To apply for a $1,000 scholarship send a letter telling us about your golf and academics accomplishments and your goals for the future.
To better the tour. We are constantly working to make the NY State Jr. Golf Tour better each and every tournament. If you have any suggestions or comments they are always welcomed.
Thank you for your interest in the New York State Junior Golf Tour.
